Dorta Jagić from Croatia won the European Poet of Freedom Award 2014

Dorta Jagić, Croatian poet, won European Poet of Freedom award 2014 for her book „Couch on the Market” (2011). The jury put the emphasis on the female freedom’s affirmation, present in Jagić’s work. The poet received the award of 100 000 PLN. Since the European Poet of Freedom 2012, the translators also receive the award. This year, alongside the poet, her translator Małgorzata Wierzbicka won the price of 10 000 PLN

How to read in a creative way? Come and find out on the workshops during European Poet of Freedom Festival!

Three meetings of the cycle “Creative Reading Workshops” are scheduled for March 19th, 20th and 22nd during the European Poet of Freedom International Literature Festival. The meetings will be hosted by the most ingenious poets and literary critics: Tomasz Różycki, Anna Piwkowska, Andrzej Sosnowski, Paweł Próchniak, Grzegorz Jankowicz and Leszek Szaruga. We invite students and adults interested in literature to join us in free workshops.

The music on 3rd European Poet of Freedom International Literature Festival - “The New Sounds”

The New Sounds consists of two concerts which are part of the 3rd European Poet of Freedom International Literature Festival. During the concerts we will hear how poetry inspires ingenious Polish composers from both younger and older generation. On March 20th at 20.00 we invite you to Centrum św. Jana for a symphonic music concert, and on March 22nd at 19.00 to the City Culture Institute for Sławomir Kupczak and sultan hagavik duo performance.

Can poetry be practical? Barbara Piórkowska, a poet and a writer from Gdańsk will try to answer this question during the workshops for the junior high school students “Poetry. A workshop on practical usage” conducted as a part of European Poet of Freedom International Festival. The City Culture Institute invites junior high students to spend the Skip School Day with literature on March 21st 9.00 – 14.00 in the IKM.
